Packaging That Sells: Structure Before Surface

Packaging is the only piece of print your customer physically operates. It has to survive a courier, open cleanly, and look right on a shelf next to competitors. Surface design is the last step, not the first.

Start from the dieline

The dieline is the flat, unfolded plan of the box. Getting it right means measuring the product with its packing material, deciding how the box opens, and choosing a closure — tuck end, crash lock, or magnetic lid — that matches how the product will be handled. We prototype the dieline in the real board before any artwork exists.

Pick the board for the journey

A cosmetic carton that only travels inside a shipper can be a light folding box. An e-commerce mailer takes the full abuse of the delivery network and needs corrugated flute. Food contact needs a food-grade board and an ink set certified for it — this is not a place to save money.

Design for the shelf distance

Most packaging is first seen from about two metres away. At that distance a shopper reads a shape, a colour block and maybe four words. Detail earns its place only once they have picked the box up. Print a flat mockup, tape it up, and stand back before you approve anything.

The unboxing is part of the print

Interior printing costs a fraction of exterior printing and is the single most photographed part of a premium box. A printed inner panel, a thank-you message or a pattern turns delivery into content your customers post themselves.

Bring us the product and we will build the dieline around it, free, before you commit to a run.
